My name is Debbie Davis.  I’m retired and have been living in Laguna Beach for the past 13 years.  Prior to retirement I was in real estate and was also a wetsuit designer and manufacturer.  I am a scuba diver and my quilt represents the beauty and chaotic fun of tropical water diving.

Approximately 25 years ago I visited the island of Kauai.  I saw the Hawaiian quilts there and loved them!  Christian missionaries had taught the Hawaiian people how to quilt. I had never seen them before even though I’d been to Hawaii many times. I loved the fabrics too: batiks and hand-dyed cottons were used.  I bought some fabric while I was there.  I do know how to sew, but I had to learn how to make a quilt so after I got home I signed up for quilting classes.  Learning to quilt was a long journey.  I have to admit that it sat untouched in my closet for about 10 years.  The quilt shops kept closing down and it would take me awhile to find another teacher to help me.

I finally finished the Sea Dreams Quilt in 2014!  The size is 52”X70”. It is not for sale. CONTACT: [email protected]
